It is a family owned and run operation that produces fresh and frozen blueberries and blueberry jam. We have farmers in our midst responsible for running two blueberry plantations and others of us come from a professional background (accounting and legal) responsible for company affairs, sale and marketing of fruit and audits. It’s a good mix, we think, and brings stability and balance to the operation. Mountain Turn Blueberry Farm is nestled in the tranquil foothills of the Amatola Mountain Range in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. In this idyllic setting on the outskirts of Stutterheim an exciting farming project is underway. We currently produce around 18 tonnes of blueberries per year from mid-October to the end of February and use our own packhouse facilities. We have over the years developed our own local markets in East London for fresh and jam quality fruit. At harvest time we have 60 plus seasonal pickers on the scene picking, sorting and packing produce which is good news for the local community and economy. European and South African customers are incredibly fussy about the quality of their produce. This includes GlobalGap certification and other food safety systems. They need to control and document all aspects of their farming operations and packhouses and submit to regular audits. It’s all about good agricultural practice, looking after the environment and your staff and of course making sure that your customers get top class fruit. So far our track record is very good with 100% on our GlobalGap audit for the last 6 years.
